With the sun very low in the sky and quickly setting, my wife noticed a hawk in our garden.
The hawk was perched on a bluebird box and was intensely staring at the rows of vegetables, while a cloud of gnats flew around the bird.
My wife called me to the kitchen window, and as soon as I saw the bird, I swapped out my Nikkor 18 to 300, with my Nikkor 200 to 500.
I stealthily went out to the garage, knowing that my back door was open for our dogs, and was able to get these shots from the garage door, without the hawk knowing I was present.
Once I could see him close-up, I realized that it was a red-shouldered hawk.
What a magnificent bird!
