Howard County Cup Race Meet

Over Hill and Dale . . .

Tom D’Asto and I attended the 74th running of the Howard County Cup Race Meet on Kentucky Derby Day.  The race was held at Pleasant Prospect Farm, in Brookeville, MD.  Thank you to Bekki McMakin for the invitation and thank you to Laura Roemer for the field orientation.

The opening ceremonies were at 2:00 PM followed by tailgate judging and then post time for the first race at 2:30 PM.  We stayed through the fourth race, and left because of rain.  The 6th and final race had a purse of $10,000.  After the race, the program continued with a parade of the Howard County Iron Bridge Hounds, then followed by the Kentucky Derby on the jumbotron.

This is a spectacular way to spend a spring Saturday, and we will have to do it again, but with families and tailgating involved.  Event details can be found at the following web link  –  http://howardcountycupraces.com/.  The following are some photos from the afternoon.

So, who won the Kentucky Derby?  Always Dreaming won the 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, giving trainer Todd Pletcher and jockey John Velazquez their second career Kentucky Derby wins.
