College Park, MD. The University of Maryland is my undergraduate Alma Mater, and I went there during the ACC pre Boomer Esiason years of 1974 through 1978. Today, after 36-years, was my first game back for the inaugural Big-10 game against Ohio State. Maryland is now in the same Division as Purdue and Penn State. This is going to take some getting used too.
Thank you to Bruce Jaffe of the Sanford Companies for the wonderful indoor/outdoor suite seats. It was an absolute pleasure to watch the game from such refined accommodations. Jeb, Tom, Gina and I had a great time.
On to the game. Ohio State marched up and down a field it has never seen before as if it owned the place, scoring on one quick drive after another as the number 20 ranked Buckeyes piled up 533 yards and spoiled our Big Ten home debut with a 52-24 win. J.T. Barrett, the Ohio quarterback, completed 18 of 23 passes for 267 yards and four touchdowns and also ran 16 times for 71 yards and a score. Ezekiel Elliott rushed for 139 yards on 24 carries, and the defense had four interceptions to hush the first sellout crowd in six years. The 51,802 fans wondered what their great conference shift had wrought.
The following are some highlight photos from the game, and an opportunity to get a feel for the upgraded Byrd Stadium.
