Botanizing Along The Potomac
Harbinger-of-Spring (Erigenia bulbosa).
Virginia Bluebells (Mertensia virginica).
Toadshade Trillium (Trillium sessile).
Bloodroot (Sanguinaria virginica).
Yellow Trout Lily (Erythronium americanum).
Squirrel Corn (Dicentra canadensis).
In flower, we also saw spring beauty, yellow corydalis, cutleaf toothwort, common blue violet, periwinkle, purple deadnettle, speedwell, lesser celandine and hairy bittercress.
Emerging from the ground we saw sizable aggregates of stinging nettle, poison hemlock, rue anemone, golden ragwort, chickweed, bellwort, mayapple, bedstraw and coltsfoot.
I’d predict that next weekend, Good Friday through Easter Sunday (after Easter Sunday Mass) should be awesome in the woods!
